MARTHA HUGHES // Director Emeritus

Martha received the Gilbert Mayor’s Community Leadership Award for the Arts in 2011 for developing award winning, superior string programs for the Gilbert Public Schools. She continues to wave her magic wand over the musical community by developing the Gilbert Town Fiddlers. She has an M.A. (& B.M.) in ‘String Pedagogy & Performance’ from ASU. Martha attended Sophia University in Tokyo and while recording under the Warner-Pioneer label of Japan, pursued a B.A. in Asian Studies. She is also a registered Suzuki Instructor.
Martha has performed with the Phoenix Symphony, Arizona and Boston Opera and Ballet, the Mesa, SanTan, and Boston Civic Symphony, to name a few. As a member of the Phoenix String Quartet she taught courses at Grand Canyon College – The Artists in Education Residency Program culminated in a Bi-cultural exchange with Mexico and performances in over eleven cities.
Her teachers, clinicians and master classes have included Josef Gingold, Arturo Delmoni, Daniel Kobialka, Dr. William Magers, the Juilliard String Quartet…and the great Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser and fiddler Antti Jarvela from the Nordic ensemble ‘Frigg’, at Sierra Fiddle Camp.
